Cheviot Quarry, Milfield
Cheviot Quarry, Milfield
Looking over the reclaimed, grassed-over, former Tarmac sand and gravel quarry towards Milfield Gliding Club. Archaeological remains found during quarrying showed settlements in the Neolithic (4000-2000 BC), the late Bronze Age (1000 BC) and the Dark Ages (AD 410-550). As well as the remains of buildings, a Neolithic henge monument was also excavated nearby. These structures have been reconstructed at the Maelmin Heritage Trail to the north NT9433 : Welcome to Maelmin
