Whelley Loop Line - De Trafford Junction
The line of trees marks the course of the now lifted Whelley Loop line. In the distance on the right the Wigan to Manchester railway can be seen crossing over. At this point on the Whelley Loop line there was a spur which went away to the left to connect with the Manchester line. The Junction was called "De Trafford Junction". See the link below for a photo of how it used to be. St Peter church spire in Hindley can be seen in both photos.
