The former Dublin Fire Brigade Central Fire Station and HQ, Pearse Street
The station and accompanying HQ block were opened in April 1907 on a substantial site at the corner of Tara Street and Pearse Street. The station had five bays opening on to Pearse Street and three opening on to Tara Street. In 1998 DFS HQ was replaced by a new headquarters in the nearby Townsend Street. The redundant HQ building occupying the curved corner section of the site has since been converted into a hotel - The Trinity Capital Hotel. The station's Italianate brick watch tower - a familiar Dublin landmark - is a protected structure. Some emergency equipment is still kept in the Pearse Street section of the former station. Sited opposite Trinity College, a full turnout from the station used to provide a welcoming distraction during dreary lectures.
