Shillinghill Bridge M62/A645
Shillinghill Bridge M62/A645
Simply-supported 3 Span reinforced concrete bridge with prestressed concrete beams. The bridge suffered substantial uneven settlement of about 1 metre in 1984, owing to coal extraction from the nearby Prince of Wales Colliery, but because of its construction, no restriction to traffic on the motorway was necessary. The twisted decks were jacked straight and the bearings replaced. The only remaining visible signs are the wide joints between the decks. I was the engineer in charge of the works.
