Peacock Hall, Royal Victoria Infirmary
Peacock Hall, Royal Victoria Infirmary
The RVI was built 1900-06, designed by W.L. Newcombe & Percy Adams. The white marble statue of the young Queen Victoria is by George Frampton, 1906. It is unusual in showing the queen in a standing position and because of its white colour. Often stautues of Victoria are of the old queen and executed in black.
The Royal Victoria Infirmary Administration Block ('Peacock Hall') is a Grade II Listed Building: LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
The name is said to come from the original wallpaper decoration of the entrance hall which was adorned with peacocks.
