Club-tailed Dragonfly (Gomphus vulgatissimus)
The Thames at Goring is one of very few places where this species can be found in Britain - it needs a slow-flowing river with well-vegetated banks and nearby woodland. This one has just emerged and has damaged its wing-tips - they are very delicate until they have dried out - but it could still fly. Around the railway bridge is the favoured area, with insects often seen emerging on the railway bridge itself in late May/early June.
