SJ9283 : The end of Lady's Incline

taken 14 years ago, near to Poynton, Cheshire East, England

The end of Lady's Incline
The end of Lady's Incline
This was the railway access to Lord Pit and Lady Pit, originally a rope work incline, but locomotive hauled from about 1889. The section visible here is more or less level and would have been horse drawn rather than rope worked until that time.
Poynton Collieries :: SJ9483

Poynton was the centre of a small but thriving coal-mining industry which developed towards the end of the 18th century, flourished during the second half of the 19th century, and lasted, with a small number of relatively modern pits until the mid 1930s.
