Symington: the graveyard watch-house
Symington: the graveyard watch-house
This old building, dating to around 1800, lies on the edge of the kirkyard at Symington Kirk. It was built to provide shelter for men watching over new burials so as to prevent their theft by grave-robbers. Corpses were in great demand in the major anatomy schools in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
