Ham House

This large house on the south bank of the Thames at Petersham was built in 1610 for Sir Thomas Vavasour but its most famous occupant was Elizabeth Murray, Countess Dysart (later Duchess of Lauderdale).

The interior of the house and the layout of the gardens are relatively unchanged since the 17th/18th centuries, making it one of the most important historical buildings in the area. It was given to the National Trust in the 1940s - see LinkExternal link

The whole park and garden is listed grade 2* (Heritage asset number 1000282) and the house itself listed grade 1 (listed building number 205337 or Heritage asset number 1080832 from 2011).
