The Chair has been removed, on July 22nd 2010. Dartmoor National Park Authority insisted on this after temporary Planning Permission had expired. It may be re-erected elsewhere in Devon.

The chair was constructed of green oak in 2006 and stands around 20 feet tall. It has created controversy since it was built, with most people enjoying and supporting its presence in the Dartmoor landscape, but Dartmoor National Park Authority has tied itself in knots as usual over planning permission issues as to whether the Chair was a fitting object and whether it would attract too many visitors and thus too much traffic.
SX7379 : Field boundaries and the Giant's Chair near Jay's Grave shows how well hidden the Chair actually is.
A Planning notice can be seen pinned on the nearest leg, and dates from the time the image was taken but the sculpture's future still seems not to be decided. See

Sculpture takes many forms and the quality is all in the eye of the beholder; some may have less merit but are ephemeral and do not require permission, see
