Donyatt Halt
This is a replica of the old station which closed under the "Beeching axe" when the railway line between Ilminster and Chard was closed in 1963. The track bed is now part of National Cycle Route 33. The small figure under the station sign is a statue of a small girl sitting on a suitcase, sculpted by Ian Edwards of Chard Link
(Archive Link
) . She represents Brenda Ash who, at the age of 7, was evacuated from her home near Bromley in Kent to Donyatt in 1939, arriving at Donyatt Halt. Her story is told, much of it in her own words, on the white plaque which is visible on the wooden platform shelter.
