SU3911 : SS Margaret Hill

taken 15 years ago, near to Millbrook, Southampton, England

SS Margaret Hill
SS Margaret Hill
Quite an elderly liquefied natural gas carrier that has now departed for scrapping. The strange symbol like an incomplete 5 indicates the presence of a bulbous bow projecting forward below the water line. This is an energy saving device (I have no clue about its hydrodynamics but it obviously works). I visited this vessel with a friend, a retired engineer, who was involved with its design and construction back in the early 1970s (it's a funny old world).
