The church of St Lawrence > Link was extended over the centuries. Originally used as a chapel of ease, built by Canons from the Premonstratensian Abbey at West Dereham between 1225 and 1250, a tower was added during the 14th century, followed by the construction of a chapel > Link of two bays on the north side of the chancel > Link and a porch in the 15th century. The chancel houses the original 13th century piscina, whereas the high altar is Jacobean. The royal arms > Link - dated 1620 - are for James I. Tilney St Lawrence was granted parish status in 1979.
