SK1887 : Upland farming changes

taken 14 years ago, 3 km from Aston, Derbyshire, England

Upland farming changes
Upland farming changes
Farming these upland areas has changed the landscape. Here on the right we see moorland which many people assume is naturally vegetated though in fact it has been sheep-nibbled for centuries. Left of centre is a green field which might have been cleared for hay pasture or upland cereal for horse-feed. Also left of centre but lower down the hillside is a field where trees are growing well. Perhaps one day many of these steep cloughs will be re-afforested.
