76-80 Southwark Street, London, SE1, is also known as Bankside Central. The building dates from 2001 and provides office accommodation in what is described as a “warehouse-style property”.
Bankside Central is one of a number of properties developed by the Manhattan Loft Corporation. The architect was Piers Gough of CZWG, who himself described the building as “not a great building”. Nevertheless, the Independent newspaper described the building as, “good and significant architecture; the kind of building that suggests that radical alternatives to status quo, battery-worker buildings can be both startlingly cheeky and user-friendly”.
The building is striking for its jutting corners, acid-coloured fenestration and overhanging top storey, making it a magnet for photographers.
