Queen Bess Rock 1935
Queen Bess Rock 1935
An early picture of Queen Bess Rock, long before she lost her head during a violent storm in 1982 (see: SW8469 : Queen Bess Rock, Bedruthan Steps taken by David Hawgood in 2005). The rock was said to resemble Queen Elizabeth the first, complete with lace ruff. The picture was taken in August 1935 by my Great-Uncle, the Rev. E. V. Tanner, whilst on the annual family Summer holiday to Cornwall. For another picture of Queen Bess with her head see SW8469 : Queen Bess Rock, Bedruthan Steps 1951 also taken by David Hawgood but in 1951.
