Bakethin Weir
Bakethin Weir
Bakethin is the smallest of the three dams which form the Kielder water supply project. The other two are the main dam at Kielder and one at Airy Holm on the Tyne - Tees tunnel system. It was designed to prevent a large stretch of mud being exposed when the main Kielder Reservoir is drawn down. With recent snow melt the main reservoir was full and as a result the Bakethin Weir was completely submerged.
