NS3482 : Lichen-covered rock
taken 16 years ago, near to Daligan, Argyll And Bute, Scotland

Lichen-covered rock
The rock is part of NS3482 : Rock outcrop near Ben Bowie; the photograph shows a particularly colourful area.
The purple colour is that of the rock itself (on which, see the last-cited link), while the yellow- and blue-tinged areas are covered by crustose lichens.
[Perhaps a factor making the rock's colouring here so eye-catching is that it almost corresponds to the three subtractive primary colours of printing, namely, cyan, magenta and yellow.]
