Lurg Moor Roman fortlet
See the end-note and NS2973 : Lurg Moor Roman fortlet for further details.
This photograph shows the south-western corner of the fortlet. Entering the image near the lower right corner is the ditch that surrounds the fortlet, with the southern wall of the rampart to its right; near the left-hand edge of the photo, the corner of the ditch, where it turns to follow the western side of the fortlet, can be seen.
In the left-hand side of the image, the town of Greenock can be seen on the near shore of the Clyde. As for the far shore, the link in the first paragraph describes the details visible on the right; on the left, the Rosneath Peninsula can be seen behind the three conspicuous tower blocks, with the Gare Loch behind it.
On the skyline, the hills at the left-hand edge of the photo, sloping down towards Loch Long, include Beinn Ruadh (NS1588) and Stronchullin Hill (NS1686). Just to the right, another prominent peak (behind and a little to the left of some cranes) is Creachan Mòr (NS1891).
