Volcanic ash, Baltasound
The Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland began erupting in March 2010, but it really hit the headlines in mid-April 2010 when it closed British airspace for six days. Dust from the ash cloud did fall on Shetland at that time, but it was not obvious on Unst, but the cloud returned in mid-May and deposited a light dusting, most obvious on cars. Sumburgh Airport in Shetland was closed all day today.
