SJ2534 : Selattyn Tower

taken 14 years ago, near to Craignant, Shropshire, England

Selattyn Tower
Selattyn Tower
Selattyn Tower was built by in 1847, but nobody is quite sure why. There were no trees on the hill then, and it was probably just a decorative ‘folly’, a place to sit and enjoy the view – and maybe it also provided cover for those who wanted to shoot the grouse. In the Second World War it was used as a lookout post by the Home Guard, who installed a large gun here. The tower actually stands on the site of a Bronze Age cairn and you can still see the ring of stones surrounding it. Copied from LinkExternal link Selattyn Hill
