Westland Lysander - Shuttleworth Collection
Serving originally as an Army Co-operation aircraft it proved too vulnerable so was used by Coastal Command (RAF) for search and rescue purpses. The aircraft is however best remembered as a spy taxi transporting secret agents behind enemy lines. For these operations, the aircraft were painted black and fitted with a long-range fuel tank beneath the fuselage A ladder was fixed to the side of the aircraft to allow the agents to enter and exit quickly.
