SD6178 : West buttress of Devil's Bridge

taken 16 years ago, near to Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, England

West buttress of Devil's Bridge
West buttress of Devil's Bridge
This is the buttress and arch base at the west end of Devil's Bridge. The pile of debris close to the stonework just left of centre is an iron post covered with grass and weed. This shows the height that the water can reach when the River Lune is in spate. Just above that post is a 1GL bench mark, which must have been inaccessible in wet weather.
