Animal carvings, Goats Crag rock shelter
Animal carvings, Goats Crag rock shelter
Although heavily eroded, the carvings of four stick-bodied animals on the flat sandstone face to the east of the rock shelter, below the massive cliffs of Goat Crag, can be readily seen. If they are truly of prehistoric age, they are some of the few representative carvings of this sort to be found in the UK LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
Symbolic carvings of the cup and ring type are found nearby, above Goat Crag itself, at Routin Lynn NT9836 : The cup and ring-marked outcrop at Roughting Linn and Broomridge NT9737 : Cup and ring marked rock, Broomridge
