Witley Court - the Conservatory
Witley Court - the Conservatory
The conservatory is the part of the building to the left of the photo. The arched openings were originally fitted with sheets of plate glass mounted directly into the stonework, without the use of conventional frames, and the whole was covered by a curved glass roof using the same technique as for the Crystal Palace, built a few years earlier in 1851. A brief history of the building is given at SO7664 : Witley Court.
