Ice house, Millennium Park, Lismore/Lios Mor
Ice Houses while not unique in the country, Lismore is indeed fortunate to have three such structures in the immediate vicinity. The Ice Houses themselves were used to store salmon caught in local river Blackwater prior to export. The fact that the ice itself was harvested from the flood plains of the river Blackwater alludes to much harsher winter's than we have now. Decking and lighting has been provided in the Ice House to allow the visitor to see for themselves the complexities of such a structure. (Waterford County Council website)
