Bromsgrove Station, with Up freight rushing the Lickey Bank
View SW, towards (Worcester), Gloucester and Bristol; ex-Midland Bristol - Gloucester - (Worcester) - Birmingham - Derby et. trunk main line. The famous Lickey Bank (two miles at 1-in-37) starts here and all trains had to stop at Bromsgrove South Box, where one or more banking engines closed onto the rear of the train, then the ensemble rushed through the station and hammered ferociously up the Bank. Here an old Midland Class 3F 0-6-0 (near the end of its life) heading a substantial Up freight sets off out of the loop with two or three helpers pushing from behind. (It was a magnificent sight - and on this occasion I also got a tape-recording).
