For the main description of the ruin, see NS4178 : Lime-kiln ruin in lower Auchenreoch Glen.

All that is now visible of the kiln is a circular pit. The mouth of the pit can be seen in the foreground, on the right.

A view along NS4178 : Auchenreoch Glen makes up the background of this photograph; the southern side is particularly steep and bare. The glen was formed by a tributary of the Murroch Burn, and a wooded area, just left of centre in the distance, lies on the other side of that burn.

The main description includes a different view of the kiln, taken during the winter months when the sun does not reach this area.
Remains of lime-kiln

This ruin is indicated on the first-edition OS map (c.1860). It is all that remains of a kiln that was used in the eighteenth or early nineteenth century. The glen in which it is located is rich in limestone deposits (some of them in the form of cementstone nodules).
