SK4453 : The Erewash Valley at Pye Bridge

taken 15 years ago, near to Ironville, Derbyshire, Great Britain

The Erewash Valley at Pye Bridge.
The Erewash Valley at Pye Bridge.
The image captures almost all of grid square SK4453. It was taken from a vantage point on Alfreton Road (B600) at Jubilee, high above the River Erewash, which can be seen winding along the valley bottom to the right of the image. The line of the river is the county boundary between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The Sheffield to Nottingham railway line can clearly be seen; however, the line linking to the Robin Hood Line at Kirkby-in-Ashfield is obscured by trees. Landscaping in the valley bottom has removed almost all traces of former industry and the LNER railway line. Modern industrial units at Coates Park and Upper Birchwood can be picked out on the horizon.
