Staines: St Mary's Church
A stone tablet on its south face ascribes the design of the church tower to Inigo Jones in 1631. The main body of the church in buff brickwork was however completed in 1829, replacing an earlier version, while the tower has been substantially modified and raised through the years. The English Heritage Listed Building website describes the tower thus, with its Grade II* listing accredited principally for the tower only:-

"The 5 stage tower is mostly in English bond with stone plinth, strings and modern coping and parapet; corner buttresses, each stage slightly set off, the upper one decorated; lancet windows, the belfry stage having large 2-light Y-pattern windows; clock to south."
