Wroxeter Roman City (01) - Entrance and Museum
Wroxeter Roman City, or Viroconium as the Romans called it, was the fourth largest Roman city in Britain. Only London, Cirencester and St. Albans were larger. The site is under the care of English Heritage and entry is made here. Once inside this building, you find yourself inside a shop with the inevitable mixture of interesting items, and those that border on tat. In the same building is a small museum, which is strong on drawings and information, but rather sparse when it comes to displaying actual Roman artefacts. For those you need to go to the superb Corinium Museum in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
