St Mary's church is of Norman origins and was built on the site of an older place of worship. The Norman church had a central tower the Norman blank arcading of which can still clearly be seen on the exterior walls. The chancel is believed to have collapsed sometime during the 16th century, the site where it once stood is marked by a slight elevation immediately to the east of the tower.
