No.1 Thistle Court, New Town
No.1 Thistle Court, New Town
No.1 Thistle Court has the distinction of being the first building to be erected when Edinburgh's New Town began to be developed in 1767 on land lying north of the old Nor Loch. The Town Council gave its first owner an inducement of £20 to build. The house is now divided into the offices of several private companies including the St. Kilda Trust.

"On the 26th of October the foundation stone of the first house in the new town was laid, by Mr. James Craig, architect, the gentleman to whom the premium was given for designing the best plan of the town; and the building of that in Thistle Court and other houses is now going on." -- Scots Magazine, 1767
