West Glen river in spate
West Glen river in spate
Swollen by autumn rains, the West Glen is in full spate. The river was running at about 5 metres/minute when this photo was taken.

This is the same bridge seen in SK9923 : Bridge over the West Glen River and SK9923 : The West Glen River . It was rebuilt in about 1974 after the river rose above the road level in heavy flooding. The brick arches were reconstructed and the road deck strengthened with reinforced concrete. Although the brick Niche was reconstructed the small stone figure that used to stand in it was lost and has not been replaced.
