Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara)
Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara)
A welcome harbinger of spring, Coltsfoot is one of the first plants to flower, sometimes appearing as early as January. The leaves accompanying it in this photograph are not its own - they appear much later in the year. Its Latin name Tussilago reflects its use since ancient times in the treatment of coughs.
