Fire Damaged Buildings on High Street
The fire started in the top floor flat of the taller white building (above shops) and spread to the neighbouring listed building. Holes in the roof were created by the fire crew to vent the building and allow access for the fire hoses. Though described as a major fire attended by 80 fire crew, little damage can be seen externally, particularly from the High Street. The majority of the fire damage was to the rear of the roof.

On Wednesday 14th July at about 3:30am a fire started in a second floor flat above the Post Office building at High Street, Staplehurst. 10 people were rescued but no-one was hurt.
Ten fire crews including 80 firefighters from as far afield as Charing, Edenbridge and Thames Valley came to the scene and the road was closed well into the evening, with traffic diverted around the housing estates.
Almost all the fire damage was to the rear of the properties. One of the damaged buildings is Grade II listed pair of houses, known as Green Court House and Green Court Cottage.
