The former Metropole Hotel, Argyle Road
The former Metropole Hotel, Argyle Road
The former Metropole Hotel, a large hotel built in 1897-1898, designed by the Leeds architects Chorley Connon and Chorley. (Now apartments on the upper storeys and The Met bar and Long Kings Chinese restaurant at ground level).
It was also one of the first buildings in Whitby to have electric lighting installed, and due to its prominent position on the cliff top, the hotel began to be used as a navigation aid by sailors.
