The new museum building, built by architects Evans and Shalev, drawing on Roman and early medieval architectural styles, houses The Age of Bede exhibition, visitor reception, the gift and bookshop and a temporary exhibition gallery.

Bede's World is a museum in Jarrow dedicated to the life and times of the Venerable Bede (673-735AD) LinkExternal link
He was a monk, author and scholar who lived at the Abbey Church of St Peter and St Paul, Wearmouth-Jarrow, a double monastery at Jarrow and Monkwearmouth (today part of Sunderland).
Ancient churches still exist on both sites NZ3365 : Tower, St Paul's Church, Jarrow and NZ4057 : St Peter's Church, Wearmouth but remains of the monastery only at Jarrow NZ3365 : Monastery site & St Paul's Church, Jarrow
