The Fletcher Statue
The Fletcher Statue
The Fletcher Statue was the work of the Galashiels-born sculptor, Thomas Clapperton (1879-1962). The statue was raised in 1913 on the 400th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden (9th September 1513), and depicts Fletcher, the sole survivor of the 80 strong Selkirk contingent sent to Flodden. In his right hand he is carrying the captured flag of Sir Christopher Savage's Macclesfield company.
