The Allied fleet for the D-Day invasion of France was assembled at various points away from the English Channel and Luftwaffe reconnaissance aircraft. One of them was Belfast Lough. This memorial plaque on the North Pier (re-named “Eisenhower Pier”) records Eisenhower’s comments.
