This tiny vole, which looked more like a Field Vole than a Bank Vole, had made its way onto the Sunshine Trail. It measured no more than 2.5 inches (6+ cm), with a very short tail.

Numbers run into the millions, suggesting that you can't move anywhere without tripping over one! However, the natural habitat should not include a cycle route and footpath. Whilst he was happy to sit and pose for me; any thoughts about moving him to a safer location were abandoned, as he cowered when a big hand approached. I left him, hoping that he would scamper through the hedgerow, up the bank, and into the neighbouring field.
