The old steam shed at Sunderland South Dock was still in use in the 1980s for the many diesel locomotive that worked the coal trains in the County Durham coal field.A line up of motive power is seen here at the weekend when very little coal moved. The shed has been demolished and closed as the work went as the mines closed.
NC8766 : Snow Admiral memorial This memorial to a Sunderland vessel that was wrecked in the Pentland Firth in 1842 lacks any further detail. Is there a record of the incident in the annals of Sunderland I wonder?
