Belford village square
Belford village square
Before the A1 by-pass was built in the 1980s, Belford stood on the Great North Road and was a much busier place than it is now. This image shows the village square and market cross in this charming village. The Blue Bell Hotel started out in the 18th century as a coaching inn; it is now popular with coach tours. The Northumberland Coast Path and St Oswald's Way long distance paths both pass the square.
