Outchester Ducket
This remarkable grade 2 listed building is often mistaken for a windmill although there is no evidence for this conclusion in its construction, apart from its external form. It probably dates from the 18th century and was possibly originally constructed as a sea mark. More recently it was used as a dovecote (hence the local name "Ducket") for Outchester Farm which formerly stood nearby.
In 2007 it was converted into self-catering holiday accommodation. With only room for two people, and with the accommodation inconveniently spread over four floors, a charge of over £800 for a week in high season seems a high price to pay for the novelty value of staying in such an unusual building.
