Newcastle Arms, Akenside Hill
Newcastle Arms, Akenside Hill
This side street passes under the Tyne Bridge and has a public house, the Newcastle Arms, somewhat uniquely placed between the support piers of the bridge. The pub predates the building of the bridge.

The pub appeared in the first 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet' TV series. Subsequently it was renamed The Pump House and later it was again renamed to Muse and painted blue. Currently it is named Fever and can be viewed in Andrew Curtis' NZ2563 : 'Fever', the pub under the Tyne Bridge.
