Bathers by the Shannon at Doonass
Bathers by the Shannon at Doonass
On a hot Sunday there were people sitting outside the Anglers' Rest pub or picnicking on the grass, and even these few hardy souls risking a paddle in the Shannon. Before the water was diverted to the Headrace Canal for the Shannon Hydroelectric Scheme in the 1920s there used to be a waterfall on the Shannon at Doonass. Now the flow is maintained at a level to give a few minor ripples all year, but no waterfall.
