A model of a new sculpture (at 1:6 scale) commissioned by the Newcastle upon Tyne Trinity House is currently on display in the Trinity House Yard NZ2564 : Trinity House Yard, east side, off Broad Chare. The artist, Gordon Young, was the winner of a design competition to provide a new memorial to Admiral Lord Collingwood LinkExternal link who was born close to this area in 1748.
The sculpture features an Atlantic wave with the features of Collingwood in the spume. It is hoped that the cut-steel and glass sculpture will be erected on the vacant plot of land on the corner site adjacent to Trinity House, at the junction of Broad Chare and Dog Bank NZ2564 : Dog Bank (right) from Broad Chare. An artist's impression shows that the size of the finished work and its location will make it another impressive piece of North-East public art.

Trinity House became responsible for lighthouses in 1536 and piloting in a large region along the North Sea coast. In return they were permitted to levy tolls on ships entering the River Tyne.

The eastings grid line passes (unseen) straight through the centre of the Yard.

A full history of the organisation is given on the Trinity House web site LinkExternal link
