R6340 : Grange stone circle

taken 15 years ago, near to Holycross, Co Limerick, Ireland

Grange stone circle
Grange stone circle
This stone circle was built about 2000 BC. It is the largest stone circle in Ireland, 50 yards in diameter. It has 113 stones which almost touch each other, different from others I have seen like Templewood stone circle in Scotland NR8297 : Templewood Stone Circle. For details see "Sacred sites of Ireland" LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . It is one of many neolithic and bronze age sites in the Loch Gur area, see heritage website LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) .
