Washing drying on Vicarage Terrace, Kirkstall, Leeds
Washing lines across the street used to be a common sight in streets of back-to-back terrace houses in Leeds. These terrace houses have no back door or back yard - the house behind shares the back wall. So the street is the only place to hang washing. There are 2 lines here, at the level of the upstairs window sills, with pulleys to haul them up. The line at the far end of the street holds some bibs, baby clothes and tee shirts. The line half way has one unidentifiable item.
Another feature is the road surface, made of granite setts (not cobbles).
