Phoenix Wharf - Plymouth
Phoenix Wharf was once the only Government Emigration Centre in the United Kingdom and boasted a seventy foot pier. The white building is the sole remnant of those times. Ferryboats operated from this site from 1895 carrying military personnel to and from several military bases that were located on the opposite side of the Cattewater as well as civilians living in the coastal villages of Oreston and Turnchapel. Dockyard tour boats use the wharf on occasion.
